We at Philips Electronics Nederland, B.V. and our affiliated companies worldwide believe strongly in protecting the privacy of any personal data (“Personal Data”) about you that you share with us. This Privacy Notice applies to all Personal Data of individuals collected or used by Philips Electronics Nederland B.V. or its affiliated companies (“we” or “us”) in respect to the sale of the DirectLife program consisting of a DirectLife Activity Monitor (“Product”), a DirectLife personalized website and e-mail contact with a DirectLife coach (the website and coach collectively: “Services”). This Privacy Notice describes the types of Personal Data we collect through this DirectLife website and the Services, and how we collect, use and disclose that information. This Privacy Notice also describes the measures we take to protect the security of the information.
Information We May Collect
When you register for DirectLife Products and Services on a DirectLife website, we ask you to provide us with your Personal Data so that we can provide you with the DirectLife Products and Services you requested. Examples of information we may ask for include your name, email address, postal address, gender, age, height, weight and, where you have opted for certain services, your telephone number and physical activity. We also collect Personal Data when you purchase or use our Products or Services.
How We Collect and Use Information about You
Here are the ways in which you can share your Personal Data with us. We also tell you how and for what purpose we use the information you submit.
When ordering our Product, you will be asked to provide your name, email address and postal address, which we use to process your purchase and deliver the Product to you.
When you register for the DirectLife Services, we ask you for your name and email address. We use this information to provide you with and communicate with you about DirectLife products and services, including the Product and the Services you may request. You can choose the method by which you prefer to be contacted. During the registration process, we also ask you for your age, gender, height and weight. We need this information to provide personalized services to you, such as indicating the level of your physical activity and the calories expended by such activity. In addition, all of this information may be used by a coach to provide you with the personalized coaching service as part of the Services you requested.
On this website, you may sign up to receive text messages (SMS) on your mobile telephone that will remind you to upload information from your Activity Monitor to this DirectLife website. To sign up for such alerts, we ask you for your mobile phone number and the time of day when you prefer to receive the reminders. We use this information to send you the alerts you requested.
When you wear the Product, it will record information about your physical activity. You may choose to upload this information to the DirectLife website to view your physical activity level on an hourly/daily/weekly/monthly and yearly basis. We use this information to provide you with and personalize the Services, such as setting your activity target, sending you motivational messages or providing personalized coaching services.
We also may use your Personal Data for our internal business purposes. These purposes include administration of this website, data analytics, evaluating and improving our Products and Services, and compliance with our legal obligations, policies and procedures.
Information We Collect by Automated Means
We collect certain information by automated means when you visit this website, such as how many users visited our site and the pages accessed. By collecting this information, we learn how to best tailor this website to our visitors. DirectLife Connect Software
We are committed to improving the quality of DirectLife products and services. In order to understand a specific problem that arises in relation to the software running on your computer, the software on your computer will log some data on the DirectLife server. These data are used to identify and detect any failures or problems you as a user may experience while using the Services. Examples of data logged and stored include the name of the process, the directory path to the software, the date/time of the process, the Open Source version, thread lists and the binary image. Such data do not reveal any content or media present on the computer or the source of downloads.
We may disclose the Personal Data we collect for our appropriate and permitted business purposes, which include the internal business purposes mentioned above. We may share this Personal Data with service providers, business partners and others, consistent with applicable law. If we are required by law to obtain your consent, or otherwise in our discretion believe that your consent is appropriate in the circumstances, we will obtain your consent before we share your Personal Data. When we share your Personal Data with business partners, our agreements with these partners will limit the purposes for which your Personal Data can be used and disclosed to appropriate business purposes. Where you are using DirectLife Products and/or Services as a result of your employment or where your employer is our business partner, we may share with your employer some of your Personal Data necessary for logistics, accounting and verification purposes, which is limited to your name, birth date, email address, postal address, start date and, if applicable, end date of your use of the Services. However, we will not share with your employer your activity level or any of your other Personal Data without your consent. Your employer may receive information about the DirectLife activity results of its employees on an anonymized and aggregated basis.
Your insurance company
Where you are using DirectLife Products and/or Services as a result of an arrangement with your insurance company or where your insurance company is our business partner, we may share with your insurance company some of your Personal Data necessary for logistics, accounting and verification purposes, which is limited to your name, birth date, email address, postal address, start date and, if applicable, end date of your use of the Services. However, we will not share with your insurance company your activity level or any of your other Personal Data without your consent. Your insurance company may receive information about the DirectLife activity results of its insureds on an anonymized and aggregated basis.
We also may share information where required by law.
Your Choice to Disclose: You may choose to make certain details about yourself, such as your avatar, nickname, relative performance, age bracket or gender, visible to the online community of DirectLife participants. If you are using the DirectLife Services as a result of your employment, you may choose to share such information about yourself with other participants of the department in which you work. Any Personal Data you share can be read, collected or used by other individuals in ways we are unable to control or predict, such as to send you unsolicited emails. Philips is not responsible for any Personal Data you choose to share with other DirectLife participants.
Access, Updates and Your Choices
Once you have provided us with your Personal Data, you will have reasonable access to that information so you can update, modify or delete it. You may do this by logging into your DirectLife account on this website and accessing your “personal settings.” We encourage you to keep your personal settings complete and current. By accessing your personal settings, you also may change your preferences on how we communicate with you.
